Is Your Blog Smarter, Faster, Cheaper? – An Interview with David Garland

Remember speech class and how terrifying and uncomfortable it was to get in front of the classroom?  After all was said and done, it wasn’t so bad.  Being in a uncomfortable place is common and a great thing for entrepreneurs.  It means you are being challenged and pushed to your mentally conceived limits.  My friend David Siteman Garland never ceases to amaze me and has been noted to be extremely uncomfortable at times.  Maybe that is why he has grown from a broke college grad, to a TV host, top blogger and now author.  The amazing part is that I watched him make this transformation in less than two years.  Even crazier…he is just 26 years old!

“Don’t be the spray-on tan of the business world”

In this interview we talk about how authenticity plays a huge factor in your success online.  David remembers the time he shot his first episode for his entrepreneurial TV show, The Rise to the Top, as he was rocking the Wall Street hair gel and spray on tan because he thought that’s what big shot TV guys did.  Boy was he off.   In fact, it was the exact opposite of what his audience wanted to see.  The funny part was that his 30-minute segment took over 10 hours to shoot because of how uncomfortable he was wearing someone else’s image.

Through his 200+ interviews with business leaders, he attempts to humanize the way we see people online.  He thinks more businesses need to cut through the fake tans and get down to the root of what really make them unique.  That is his secret to success online.

In an space where there is so much noise and competition, David sets himself apart in one simple way.  Leading by example.  The best way to get on stage is to create your own.  His top entrepreneurship blog is the platform he has used to attract his book deal and interview top business authors on the secrets to their success.  Just by being himself and following his passion, he created a “Smarter, Faster, Cheaper.” brand, which is also the title of his new book.  Not only is David doing well for himself in his business ventures, the most remarkable part is that he did it steering clear of a huge budget and the traditional marketing strategies.  David did it the “smarter, faster and cheaper” way.

So, how does one go from broke college grad to a TV host and Author by age 26?  Let’s find out…

In what way is your blog smarter, faster and cheaper?
